Man charged in Kahakuloa incident

A 24-year-old Waihee man was being held on $500,000 bail at the Wailuku Police Station on Monday after allegedly operating a vehicle that struck two individuals in Kahakuloa village on Sunday morning.

Kaleo Kubo was charged with two counts of first-degree assault, police said Monday evening.

On Sunday at 9:33 a.m., Wailuku patrol officers responded to Kahakuloa village to investigate a report of a motor vehicle collision. While heading to the collision, officers were informed that one of the vehicles, a white Honda four-door sedan, fled the scene and headed toward Lahaina.

The officers learned that the sedan was reported stolen and that it was operated by a man who struck two individuals and fled the scene, police said.

The suspect was later apprehended in the area of Nakalele Point, police said.
