Maui Friends of the Library volunteer Marianne Gill shows Kaydence Hall, 5, a picture of her painted face during Saturday’s event marking the second anniversary of the organization presenting the Maui Bookmobile as a gift to the Hawaii State Public Library System. It also celebrated the sixth year of the group’s bookstore at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center and National Library Card Signup Month. Hall said her favorite books offer a bit of excitement. “I like pop-up books,” she said. “Sometimes they scare you when you don’t know what the pop-up is.”

Nile Murray, 5, displays her artistry on a bookmark she colored outside the Maui Bookmobile Saturday morning at the Queen Ka’ahumanu Center.
