Signs not allowed on state right of way

The state Department of Transportation reminded people Thursday that outdoor advertising is not allowed in the public right of way on state highways.

Such advertising includes political campaign signs placed on overpasses, fencing, signposts and poles. Unpermitted signs will be removed and stored for two weeks for the owner. If unclaimed, they will be thrown away, state officials said.

To report an illegally posted sign on a state highway right of way, call 873-3535 in Maui County.
