Applications and proposals for a recycling grant program through the county Department of Environmental Management are being accepted for the next fiscal year, which begins July 1.

An estimated $240,000 will be available, subject to approval by the County Council.

Projects must be consistent with the goals of the Environmental Protection and Sustainability Division and the Recycling Section. Potential projects may include recycling education, equipment upgrades, program extensions and the collection of processed materials.

Applications are available starting Wednesday at www.mauicounty.gov/recycle. Paper copies may be picked up or dropped off at the division office, 2145 Wells St., Suite 103, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

A grant application information session will be held at the division office at 3 p.m. Jan. 11.

Applications must be delivered or postmarked by 4 p.m. Jan. 16. Summaries will be reviewed and applicants will be notified if they have been selected to submit a complete full grant application. Submittal does not guarantee funding.

For those selected, full applications must be received at the division office or postmarked by 4 p.m. Feb. 3. After the first round of applications are funded, there may be additional applications accepted.
