Man caught with stolen tools

Police arrested a man who was found with tools that had been stolen from a vehicle parked at a Kihei shopping center Monday, according to police.

Miguel Washington, 28, of Kihei was charged with first-degree unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, second-degree theft and disorderly conduct. His bail was set at $10,000.

The break-in occurred at 1:25 p.m. Monday when a man saw someone go into his work vehicle and take property, including his cellphone, police said. The owner confronted the thief as he tried to leave and saw his cellphone in the suspect’s back pocket, police said. The suspect returned the cellphone and fled before the victim noticed other items missing from the vehicle, police said.

At 2:43 p.m. Monday, police were investigating a report of disorderly conduct when officers made contact with Washington, who matched the description of the suspect in the break-in, police said. Washington was found with tools taken from the vehicle and was identified as the suspect, police said.
