Prenatal telemedicine available at Lanai center
The Maui News
An obstetrics and gynecology physician on Oahu will be offering telemedicine prenatal care visits at the Lanai Community Health Center this month.
Since Lanai does not have labor and delivery services, this program will offer pregnant mothers on Lanai the opportunity to reduce flights to Oahu for prenatal care, the health center news release said. Prenatal patients will now be able to have telemedicine prenatal visits with Dr. Cori-Ann Hirai of University Health Partners on Oahu, along with center medical providers.
The new program will allow a seamless delivery of services when mothers fly to Oahu to deliver their babies.
“They will have already met Dr. Hirai and she has been involved with their prenatal care from the beginning of the pregnancy,” the center said.
Hirai earned her medical degree from the University of Hawaii John A. Burns School of Medicine and completed her OB-GYN internship and residency with the Hawai’i Residency Program, the center said. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Irvine.
Her clinical focus is general obstetrics and gynecology and her office is located at Kapiolani Medical Center on Oahu.
The center already offers prenatal ultrasounds performed by Thalia Salazar, a certified ultra-sonographer. The images are read by a maternal/fetal specialist with UHP, using store and forward telemedicine technology.
