Pay hikes for mayor, council on agenda

The county Salary Commission will be meeting at 8:30 a.m. Friday to discuss possible salary adjustments for the mayor and County Council.

The agenda item did not detail what the adjustments might be but the commission did take up a proposal to increase Maui County Council members’ salaries by 3 percent at its Feb. 8 meeting. The motion, which did not include the mayor, failed.

At its December meeting, the commission voted for a 3 percent cost of living increase for county directors and deputy directors. Those increases went into effect Jan. 1.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be held in the Mayor’s Conference Room in the Kalana O Maui county building in Wailuku.
