The Coast Guard is seeking the public’s help identifying the owner of an adrift kayak found off Kalepolepo Beach Park in Kihei on Monday evening.

A good Samaritan noticed the red-and-yellow kayak, recovered it and turned it in to the Maui Police Department, according to the Coast Guard. The Fire Department conducted a shoreline search Monday evening approximately 1 mile north and south of the area.

There were no reports of missing people in the area, the Coast Guard reported.

Anyone with information that may help identify the owner of the kayak is asked to call Coast Guard Sector Honolulu at (808) 842-2600.

The Coast Guard offers free “If Found” decals to mark gear. The information on the sticker can allow responders to determine if someone is in distress more quickly and help return equipment to owners.

The labels can be obtained at local harbormasters, through the Coast Guard Auxiliary and at some marine retail and supply stores.
