Four promoted to fire captain

Four Maui Fire Department firefighters have been promoted to captain and six have been promoted to firefighter III.
The new captains are:
• Lokahi Herrod, an 18-year veteran who will remain at the Kaunakakai Fire Station.
• Mike McDonald, a 13-year veteran who was most recently assigned to the Wailea ladder company. He is heading the Health and Safety Bureau, where he previously worked from 2014 to 2016. He is a member of the emergency medical services, cardiopulmonary resuscitation and grant-writing cadres.
• Tracy Nakagawa, a 17-year veteran who most recently worked at the Lahaina Fire Station. After a short stint at the Hoolehua, Molokai, fire station, he will work at the Wailea station.
• Henry Patao, a 24-year veteran who had been with the Hazardous Materials Company at the Kahului Fire Station. He is assigned to a Napili engine company. Patao is a member of the Maui Incident Management Team and part of the department’s Critical Incident Stress Management team.
Those promoted to firefighter III are:
• Richard Alcon, an 11-year veteran who most recently was assigned to the Kaunakakai station. He has transferred to the Pukoo, Molokai, engine company.
• Ikaika Blackburn, a 12-year veteran most recently assigned to the Wailuku engine company. He is transferring to the Kaunakakai station.
• La’akea Chang, an 11-year veteran who started his career with the Hawaii Island Fire Department in 2006. He most recently was assigned to a rescue crew at the Kahului station and will be working in the Training Bureau. He is a member of the department’s ocean rescue, swim survival and confined space training cadres, as well as the Maui Incident Management Team.
• Clement Enomoto, a 12-year veteran who most recently was assigned to a rescue crew at the Kahului station. He will work in the Training Bureau. Enomoto is a member of the department’s emergency medical services/cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Critical Incident Stress Management and helicopter operations training cadres, and is part of the Maui Incident Management Team.
• Russell Jones, a 16-year veteran who was most recently assigned to a Napili engine company. He will work in the Training Bureau.
• John Teves, an 11-year veteran most recently assigned to a Wailuku engine company. He will work in the Health and Safety Bureau.
