High-surf advisory posted for islands

The National Weather Service has extended a high-surf advisory for the east-facing shores of Molokai and Maui through 6 a.m. today.

Large and choppy surf along east-facing shores is expected to gradually decrease over the next few days as trade winds begin to weaken. The advisory predicts surf of 6 to 10 feet along the east-facing shores of Molokai and Maui, lowering to 4 to 8 feet today.

Strong breaking waves, shore break and strong longshore and rip currents are expected. Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should pay attention to ocean safety officials and exercise caution.
