House fire causes $388,000 in damages
A fire that gutted the top level of a two-story house in Maui Meadows on Wednesday caused an estimated $388,000 in damage, a fire official said Thursday.
The fire was reported at 10:51 a.m. on Kehala Drive, with fire crews from Wailea, Kihei and Kahului responding. Residents had evacuated the house before firefighters arrived. The fire was brought under control at 11:55 a.m.
Fire Services Chief Rylan Yatsushiro said that damage was estimated at $338,000 to the structure and $50,000 to its contents. He said that after an investigation, the cause of the fire remains undetermined.
