Maui surfer Matt Meola teams with Kalama Intermediate School students to win a tower-building contest during Friday’s Celebrity Fitness Day in the school library. Teams captained by local celebrities were challenged to build towers that couls support a marshmallow out of spaghetti noodles, tape, string and lots of imagination. Meola’s team built the tallest tower. “Just to be able to interact with them was awesome,” Meola said. “They’re all super smart.” The student-led event was about learning from positive role models and sharing the positive things that are happening at Kalama Intermediate. “I’m just glad they could come,” said event emcee Kainea Anakalea, 13. “We’re just very grateful they could be here.”
