SBA winners to be honored at lunch

Event to include a Maui economic forecast report

Maui winners of this year’s Small Business Administration Small Business Awards will be recognized at a luncheon May 2 at the King Kamehameha Golf Club.

The luncheon will include an economic update by Carl Bonham, a founding member of the University of Hawaii Economic Research Organization. Bonham’s keynote address will include the organization’s county forecast report and focus on Maui’s economy, according to a news release from the Maui Chamber of Commerce.

“The Maui outlook will concentrate on growth, despite capacity constraints emerging for tourism and the ever-tightening labor market,” according to the news release.

Registration and networking start at 11 a.m., with the luncheon program from noon to 2 p.m. Reservations are required. Tickets are $57 per person for chamber members, award recipients and guests of award recipients, with a $5 discount for registration by Monday. Chamber members may register online at MauiChamber.com. Nonmembers can call the Maui Chamber of Commerce at 244-0081 for ticket pricing and availability.

The Maui County award winners are:

• Maui County Small Business Person of the Year, Angela “Angie” Leone, manager of Maui Leones LLC, doing business as Coconut Condos in Lahaina.

• Maui County SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year, Ray Michaels, president of Maui Plumbing Inc. in Kahului.

• State Entrepreneurial Success of the Year, Ross R. Scott, president, and Anna M. Scott, vice president, secretary & treasurer, of Sunshine Helicopters Inc.

• State Small Business Advocate for Women in Business, Leslie Wilkins, president & CEO of Maui Economic Development Board Inc.
