Busy summer travel season will leave airport parking at a premium
The Maui News
Travelers are being advised to get dropped off at the airport rather than paying for parking during the summer travel season from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
The advisory applies in particular to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu, where parking structures can reach capacity because of a limited number of parking stalls due to construction projects and the growing popularity of electric vehicles, which park for free at state airports, according to the state Department of Transportation Airports Division.
At Kahului Airport, which has 1,200 public parking stalls, the parking cost is a maximum of $15 a day.
Drivers waiting to pick up arriving passengers can wait in the cellular telephone waiting lot free for up to one hour.
