Kahului keeps feeling the heat
The Maui News
Kahului knocked off another heat milestone on Thursday, hitting 95 degrees and breaking the old record for the date of 92 degrees, set on May 23, 1996.
It’s the fifth time in the past six days that Kahului has broken its own heat records. Kahului reached 91 degrees on Saturday, 92 degrees on Sunday and 93 degrees on Monday — all record highs for those dates. Tuesday followed with 92 degrees, just shy of the record high of 93 degrees set in 1953. Then on Wednesday, Kahului topped off at 96 degrees, a record for the date and just short of the all-time high of 97, set on Aug. 31, 1994 and equaled on Aug. 22, 2015.
Today’s weather in Kahului is expected to be mostly sunny, with a high near 91. The National Weather Service predicted breezy conditions, with a north wind of 10 to 15 mph increasing to 17 to 22 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 31 mph.
