Man arrested for assaulting nurses
A 21-year-old Haiku man was arrested last week for assaulting two nurses and and attempting to assault a nurse’s aide at Maui Memorial Medical Center, according to police.
Elijah Goldberg had been admitted into the Molokini Ward at the hospital when he became agitated while a nurse was asking routine questions at about 4:45 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Goldberg punched the nurse in the stomach, pushed past him into the hallway and unsuccessfully tried to leave the ward through locked emergency exit doors, police said. After the nurse tackled Goldberg, he continued trying to punch the nurse, police said. When another nurse and a nurse’s aide helped in trying to restrain Goldberg, he bit one nurse’s left thumb and the other nurse’s right calf, police said.
Goldberg was restrained and the nurses were treated for their injuries, police said.
Goldberg was released after posting a $15,000 bond. He was charged with two counts of second-degree assault and attempted second-degree assault.
