Swimmers rescued from Black Rock
Lifeguards rescued a man and woman who were clinging to Black Rock in Kaanapali and unable to make it to shore in high surf and strong currents Monday, a fire official said.
Lahaina firefighters and ocean safety lifeguards responded to the 2:22 p.m. call after the visitors in their 30s were seen waving for help, said Fire Services Chief Val Martin. He said the man and woman eventually entered the water and were brought to shore by a lifeguard on a rescue watercraft.
Firefighters tended to the pair, who suffered scrapes and cuts and refused treatment, Martin said.
