95 degrees is June record temperature

The spring heatwave continues with a record high temperature of 95 degrees recorded at Kahului Airport on Thursday, the National Weather Service said.

The 95 degrees is the highest temperature on record for June and broke the record of 91 degrees for the day set in 2007. The record temperature for the month had been 94 degrees.

At 2:30 p.m. Friday, the high temperature was 95 degrees again at Kahului Airport, which would be another record for the day. The previous record of 94 degrees was set in 1953.

Daytime temperatures of 90-plus degrees have prevailed for most the days since mid-May.

Another 90-plus temperature day is forecast for today for the central valley. The high temperatures are expected to range from 86 to 94 degrees under sunny skies. The lows are between 67 and 72 degrees.

Northeast winds are predicted to blow 10 to 15 mph.
