Two Lahaina men were rescued from the Pailolo Channel on Saturday afternoon after their boat ran into trouble about 4 miles out from Kahana, according to the fire department.

The men, a 29-year-old and a 19-year-old, had taken the boat out for a leisure trip when it ran into mechanical issues out in the Pailolo Channel between Maui and Molokai. First responders were alerted at 3:22 p.m. Saturday. They conducted a coordinated search of the area and located the boaters about 4 miles out from the Sands of Kahana. By the time rescue crews arrived, the boat had been adrift for about an hour.

The men were brought back to shore safely. They did not have any injuries and required no medical attention.

Weather conditions at the time were normal for the Pailolo Channel, the department said. Skies were clear with winds of 15-20 mph and wind chop swells of 3-4 feet.
