Commissions, boards need volunteers to fill vacancies

Applications are being sought for the Maui County Cost of Government Commission, as well as for other boards and commissions, the office of Mayor Michael Victorino said in a news release.

The Cost of Government Commission promotes efficient government operations and improved customer service by analyzing existing operations. The panel’s website indicates one vacancy among its nine members.

Applicants are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the Maui County Council.

Submissions for all boards and commissions are kept on file for at least two years, the news release said. When positions become available due to resignations or expiration of terms, potential applicants are reviewed and nominated based on experience and interest.

Commission and board responsibilities include hearing public testimony, reviewing policies and making recommendations. Terms run two to five years.

No monetary compensation is provided. Volunteers are reimbursed for allowable travel expenses.

Anyone interested in serving on the Cost of Government Commission or any other board or commission should complete an application online at mauicounty.gov/boards; mail an application to Mayor Mike Victorino, 200 S. High St., Ninth Floor, Wailuku, 96793; or fax one to 270-7870.

Hard copies of the application may be picked up at the county building in the Mayor’s Office on the ninth floor or in the main lobby. They also are available at all public libraries; Council Services offices on Molokai and Lanai and in Hana; and at Parks and Recreation Permit offices in Wailuku, Makawao, Lahaina, Kihei, Hana, Molokai and Lanai.
