Man arrested for brandishing baton

A 35-year-old man was arrested after he brandished a baton and used it to strike a man Wednesday morning in Lahaina, according to police.

Adrian Sugiyama, 35, was charged with two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening, second-degree assault and carrying a deadly weapon. His bail was set at $16,000.

Police were called to the area near Lahaina Ace Hardware in Lahaina Square on Wainee Street at about 6:30 a.m. Wednesday. Investigation showed Sugiyama brandished the yellow wooden baton at one man and hit him in the left shoulder with the baton before the man ran, police said.

Sugiyama also brandished the baton and threatened another man, who ran, police said.

Police arrested Sugiyama and recovered the baton nearby.
