Snagged lines cause Peahi outage

A dump truck snagged telephone lines that brought down a utility pole and power lines in Haiku, causing an outage in the Peahi area Thursday night, Maui Electric Co. said.

One span of power lines along Heaaula Place were brought down in the incident at about 9:20 p.m. and knocked out power to about 200 customers, said MECO spokeswoman Shayna Decker on Friday.

A majority of customers had their power restored by 10:45 p.m. She said the last 60 customers got power back at 5:20 a.m. Friday after MECO crews completed repairs.
