Beach Safety Week kicks off Sunday

Maui County’s Fire and Public Safety Department will host a spinal injury prevention presentation on Tuesday at Makena State Park as part of Beach Safety Week, which kicks off Sunday.

The weeklong event promotes safety and drowning prevention and honors lifeguards who put their safety on the line every day.

Tuesday’s presentation will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jeff Giesea, Ocean Safety Bureau acting battalion chief; Jeff Later, trauma program manager at Maui Memorial Medical Center; and other ocean safety officers will discuss spinal injury prevention in Maui County, as well as efforts to battle the causes behind this serious injury.
