A closed sign was seen at Keopuolani Park on Thursday morning. Keopuolani Park in Kahului will again be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today as the county continues its second day of cleanup at the park.

Maui County Department of Housing and Human Concerns reported that six apparently homeless people were seen leaving the park as cleanup began Thursday. Another two people were seen with their belongings by the side of the road near the Maui Family YMCA, county spokesman Brian Perry said. The Family Life Center had conducted two weeks of outreach work offering services for those in the park. Cleanup crews planned to cut and thin brush so walkways will be safe for users, along with remove debris within the undeveloped areas of the park and reduce reported illegal activity in the area.
