Maui County scheduled to host planning conference Sept. 11

Sessions to feature experts on diverse range of topics

The Maui County Planning Department will be hosting this year’s annual Hawaii Congress of Planning Officials Conference from Sept. 11 to 13 at the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa.

The conference is an annual meeting of planners, commissioners, government employees, developers, landowners, consultants, policymakers and community members who are involved in managing and regulating land use and development in Hawaii.

Keynote speakers will include city planner and urban designer Jeff Speck — author of “Suburban Nation” — and Kristin Baja, climate resilience officer with the Urban Sustainability Directors Network. This year’s theme is “Keep Calm and Plan On.”

Sessions will feature experts on a diverse range of topics that include housing, transportation, water, cultural values, climate adaptation and community planning. The conference also offers four mobile tour choices, each focusing on themes of climate adaptation and resilience, agriculture, economy and the environment.

Registration includes access to two days of sessions, exhibits, all meals and nightly entertainment. For more information, visit 2019hcpomaui.com.
