New Portuguese consul named

Tyler Dos Santos-Tam has been named honorary consul for Portugal in Honolulu, the Portuguese Consulate General in San Francisco announced last month.

He has worked six years as executive director of the Hawaii Construction Alliance and currently is a business consultant. He is a graduate of Punahou School on Oahu and Yale University with a degree in political science and Portuguese.

Currently, Santos-Tam is president of the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii and chairman of the Honolulu City and County Neighborhood Commission.

The new honorary counsel, a descendant of Portuguese immigrants to Hawaii, will focus on strengthening the relationship between Hawaii and Portugal in business, tourism and culture, the news release said.
