Temperature gauge breaks at airport
The National Weather Service plans to send technicians out today to inspect the weather gauge at the Kahului Airport, which broke Saturday over another hot weekend.
While the heat may have felt record setting to some, the National Weather Service said Sunday that due to the broken gauge, which was having communications issues, it couldn’t confirm the temperatures reported on its website, some of which reached into the low-90s.
It was unclear what caused the gauge to break.
On Friday, before the gauge broke, Kahului experienced 95-degree temperatures, breaking the previous record of 92 degrees set on the same date in 2004.
