Eighteen-month-old Lily Micheel helps dad, Shane Micheel, and brother, Caleb, 3, try to stay one step ahead of the waves while building a sandcastle along the shore break at Kaanapali Beach last week. Shane Micheel, who lives in Denver, said vacationing on Maui is a family tradition that dates back to when he was child visiting with his parents. He said the growth of Maui’s tourism industry is noticeable. “I definitely notice that every tourist beach is packed,” he said.
