Aloha Week on Wednesday

First photo: An accomplished practitioner in creating natural dyes with native plants, Lani Duponte has been creating costumes for Halau Kekuokala’au’ala’iliahi. During her appearance at Four Seasons Maui at Wailea’s first Aloha Week on Wednesday, Duponte taught a workshop on natural dyes. Guests got to learn about the many uses of native plants, and they could paint and stamp their own keepsake prints made from natural ingredients. Aloha Week activities continue today and Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wailea resort. Today, there will be a kapa traditions display by Avi Molinas, with his lei collection on display Friday.

Second photo: Master weaver Pohaku Kaho’ohano-hano is a cultural practitioner and preservationist of traditional Native Hawaiian weaving. He has been taught by seven master kumu, and his work is on display in museums across Hawaii and in many private collections, including the Dalai Lama’s. During an appearance at Four Seasons Maui on Tuesday, Kaho’ohanohano taught guests how to make lauhala fans.
