Flags at half-staff for Patriot Day
The Maui News
Flags will fly at half-staff today in remembrance of the nearly 3,000 people who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
The U.S. and Hawaii flags will be lowered at the direction of President Donald Trump.
By a joint resolution approved on Dec. 18, 2001, Congress designated Sept. 11 of each year as “Patriot Day,” calling on all departments and agencies of the United States to display the flag at half-staff and to observe a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. EST (2:46 a.m. HST) to honor the victims of 9/11.
