Oil prices stable in Kahului
Despite the turmoil with oil production, gas prices Thursday remained unchanged from the previous week at $3.84 a gallon for regular unleaded in Kahului, according to the AAA Hawaii Weekend Gas Watch.
The price also was unchanged from a month ago and 23 cents lower than a year ago. The highest price in the survey is $4.87, set in April 2012
The statewide average price was $3.66 a gallon, also unchanged from a week ago. The price is 1 cent higher than a month ago and 12 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasPrices.AAA.com.
At other Hawaii locations, the average price in Honolulu was $3.54, unchanged for the week; in Hilo, $3.76, 1 cent lower; and in Lihue, $3.82, 3 cents lower. The prices were tracked as of 8 a.m. Thursday.
“We may yet see local prices react to oil prices increases based on attacks on Saudi Arabia production facilities last weekend if those facilities take longer than anticipated to be repaired, but so far prices continue to be steady,” said Liane Sumida, AAA Hawaii general manager.
