S. Maui emergency measures is topic

Kevin Richards from the Hawaii Hazards Awareness and Resilience Program will be speaking at the Kihei Community Association at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 17 at St. Theresa Church.

Richards, who also is a planner with the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency, will be joined by Herman Andaya, county administrator for the Maui Emergency Management Agency, and South Maui Rep. Tina Wildberger.

Of particular concern to area residents is the outdated regional infrastructure, the association news release said. Community members will be asking questions about evacuation measures and preparations.

Also at the meeting, a nominating committee will be elected to assemble a list of nominees for the 2020 board of directors.

The meeting is free and open to the public, though attendees are asked to bring a nonperishable food donation for the Maui Food Bank.

Membership is not required but encouraged. For more information, go to the website www.gokihei.org or call (508) 499-9996.
