Paddlers raise money for cancer foundation
First photo: The 34-mile round trip Paddle for Life on Saturday and Sunday raised more than $225,000 and counting for the Pacific Cancer Foundation. Twenty-four canoes with 400 cancer patients, survivors and supporters left Canoe Beach in Kaanapali on Saturday morning, taking on the 17-mile trek across the Auau Channel. Many of the canoes arrived at Lanai’s Manele Bay around noon. Most crew members spent the night at Dole Park with dinner provided by Nalu’s South Shore Grill and paddled back Sunday. A total of 28 escort and medic boats joined the canoes during the trip in the channel. In this photo, Paddle for Life crews depart Lanai’s Manele Bay on Sunday for the 17-mile return trip to Maui.
Second photo: Crews in Paddle for Life enjoy a dinner provided by Nalu’s South Shore Grill at Dole Park on Lanai. Most of the crew members in the Paddle for Life benefit for the Pacific Cancer Foundation camped at the park overnight before returning to Maui on Sunday.
