Fire burns down Kipahulu structure
A fire completely burned down a structure in Kipahulu on Monday afternoon, though no one reportedly lived there, according to the Maui Police and Fire Departments.
Crews received reports of the fire at 40755 Hana Highway at 1:24 p.m. Monday. Engine 7 and Tanker 7 from Hana arrived to find the structure fully engulfed. They worked to put out the blaze and had it extinguished by 5:21 p.m. Engine 2 was also responding to the scene but was canceled en route.
The structure was a total loss, the Fire Department said.
The Engine 7 crew was unable to speak with the owner. However, the Maui Police Department reported that no full-time residents were living there and that the building was possibly a workshop.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
