High bacteria count canceled at Kanaha
A state Department of Health advisory of a high bacteria count at Kanaha Beach has been canceled, the department announced Friday.
Water sample testing results show that the enterococci levels no longer exceed advisory levels.
The department had first alerted the public to high levels of bacteria at Kanaha on Nov. 8. During routine beach monitoring, staff detected enterococci levels of 364 per 100 milliliters, indicating that potentially harmful microorganism such as bacteria, viruses, protozoa or parasites may have been present in the water.
The advisory had to remain in effect until water sample results no longer exceeded the threshold level of 130 enterococci per 100 ml.
