High-surf advisory still in effect today

A high-surf advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. today for north-facing shores of Molokai and Maui.

The advisory means that high surf will affect beaches in the advisory area, producing rip currents and localized beach erosion, according to the National Weather Service.

A north-northwest swell is bringing surf of 12 to 16 feet to north-facing shores of Molokai and Maui. Forecast surf heights are estimates of the height of the face, or front, of waves.

Beachgoers, swimmers and surfers should heed all advice from Ocean Safety officials and exercise caution.
