Kahului burglars sought by police

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying two people who were captured on surveillance video breaking into Central Maui Gold & Loan in Kahului late Sunday night.

At about 11:30 p.m. Sunday, the manager of Central Maui Gold & Loan reported being awakened by the alarm going off at the business, according to Maui police. Patrol units arrived on scene to find an SUV that was parked unattended inside the business.

Checks of the business revealed that multiple jewelry cases were smashed and various jewelry items stolen. The value of the items stolen is estimated at $34,000, in addition to $15,000 in property damages, police said.

After reviewing the video surveillance footage, investigators were able to obtain images of the two offenders involved in the burglary.

The investigation is ongoing, and no further information is available at this time, police said.
