Kawano confirmed as 2nd Circuit judge
Judge Kelsey Kawano’s appointment as a 2nd Circuit judge was confirmed by the state Senate, which met Wednesday in a special session.
Kawano has served as a 2nd Circuit District Court judge since Aug. 29, 2008, after having served as a district judge part time beginning in 2006, according to the state Judiciary website. He currently serves as deputy chief judge.
He previously worked as an attorney in private practice, handling cases involving family, business, employment and real estate, the website said.
Kawano earned his law degree from the University of Washington School of Law in 1984 and his bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
Last month, Gov. David Ige appointed Kawano to fill the vacancy created by the retirement in June of longtime Judge Joseph Cardoza, who has continued as a volunteer judge.
