WAILUKU — A man on probation for abusing his girlfriend was arrested for allegedly assaulting and abusing her last week.
Brayden Pililaau, 36, who gave no local address, was charged with second-degree assault, two counts of abuse and second-degree terroristic threatening.
According to police, Pililaau grabbed his girlfriend from the back of her neck, shoved her to the ground and punched her head after they got into an argument at about 8 p.m. Wednesday behind Maui Beach Hotel at 170 W. Kaahumanu Ave. in Kahului. She was able to get up and the two separated, police said.
At 5:14 a.m. the next day, the woman approached Pililaau while he was sitting in front on Walgreens at 10 E. Kamehameha Ave. in Kahului, police said. He accused her of cheating on him, grabbed her by her hair, shoved her to the ground and hit her in the face, according to police. When she got up, Pililaau hit her in the back of her head with his skateboard and fled, police said.
She was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where she was treated for a fracture to her right eye orbital, police said.
Pililaau was arrested about an hour later at Airport Access Road and Hana Highway in Kahului, police said.
During Pililaau’s initial appearance Friday in Wailuku District Court, Judge Douglas Sameshima granted a prosecution request to increase bail for Pililaau to $22,000.
Pililaau had asked that bail remain at the $3,000 set by police. He has no job and nowhere to live, and wouldn’t be able to bail himself out at a higher amount, said Deputy Public Defender Rachel Miyoshi.
Pililaau was ordered to stay away from the victim.
If he posts bail to be released, he was ordered to report for supervision and random drug testing. He was ordered not to consume alcohol or illegal drugs.
Court records show that on Aug. 9, Pililaau was placed on four years’ probation after he had pleaded no contest to second-degree criminal property damage, felony abuse, abuse and two counts of third-degree assault in two cases involving the same victim.
In a pending case, Pililaau is charged with felony abuse and abuse of his girlfriend on Aug. 22. He allegedly became upset when she turned on the light while he was sleeping at their Kahului residence, and placed both hands around her throat for about 10 seconds to impede her breathing, according to court records.
