Mayor to host holiday event

A Christmas celebration with Christmas tree lighting and mini-parade, hosted by Maui County Mayor Michael Victorino, is set for 5 p.m. Friday on the front lawn of the Kalana O Maui building in Wailuku.

The event is free and open to the public.

The mini-parade from the county building and down South High and Main streets to First Friday festivities on Market Street begins at 5:45 p.m.

The St. Anthony concert band will play Christmas carols and the state champion Baldwin High cheerleading squad and Santa will be in the mini-parade.

“This will be a family-friendly, good-fun event to kick off the Christmas holidays,” Victorino said. “It will be a bit nostalgic as well, with old-time paper bags with an apple, orange and candy for the young and young at heart.”
