Work will close Kaupakalua Road
Portions of Kaupakalua Road in Haiku will be closed on the weekends beginning Nov. 23 as crews work on road pavement reconstruction, the county Department of Public Works has announced.
Electronic sign boards have been installed on the Kokomo Road and East Kuiaha Road ends of the reconstruction work portion.
Motorists should expect traffic disruptions. Off-duty police officers will direct drivers to detours around work areas. Access to residential areas will be allowed to residents only.
Weekend road closures are expected to last, weather permitting, for about five months.
Contractor Hi Built LLC will determine by midday on Fridays whether work will proceed over the weekend. Closures will be in effect from Saturday morning through Sunday evening.
Preparatory work for the nearly $4.8 million project has been ongoing for three months.
Reconstruction work involves removal of existing pavement down to the gravel sub-base, installing reinforced asphalt concrete pavement, adjusting manholes and valves and removing and/or replacing old guardrails, signs and posts.
