Baldwin Beach Park still closed due to flooding Friday; Hookipa lot reopens
The county announced Friday morning that the Baldwin Beach Park in Paia will remain closed until further notice due to flooding from 30-foot-high surf.
Meanwhile, the county reopened on Friday morning the west parking lot of Hookipa Beach Park, which was closed Thursday due to flooding from waves.
The public is urged to still use “extreme caution” when using the park due to high surf conditions, according to the county’s Department of Parks and Recreation .
The National Weather Service had a high surf advisory up Friday morning, where waves of 18 to 24 feet this morning and 14 to 20 feet in the afternoon on Maui’s north shore, along with 12 to 16 feet this morning and 8 to 12 feet this afternoon on Molokai’s west shore, were anticipated.
The advisory was posted until Saturday at 6 a.m.
