MAKAWAO — The Hui No’eau Visual Arts Center brings holiday magic to Makawao each year.

With its Hui Holidays event through Dec. 24, the gallery is transformed into a winter wonderland that’s decked out with handmade and local pieces in a variety of mediums.

From jewelry, handblown glass ornaments, locally crafted soap, gift cards, fashion accessories and more — the one-stop shop had many finds shoppers were seeking Saturday.

“I always come with the intent to buy for others, but that’s not necessarily what happens,” said Lori Perreira of Makawao.

She said her Christmas list for friends and family includes mostly local-made gifts and she likes that Hui Holidays has “many different price points.”

This Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m., the center will host its annual Hui Holidays First Night Celebration, a 21 and older night of shopping, entertainment and drinks. The popular event is sold out this year, Hui staff said Saturday.
