High surf hits Maui, Molokai shores

A high-surf advisory will be in effect for north- and west-facing shores of Molokai and north-facing shores of Maui through 6 a.m. today.

The National Weather Service said that the current northwest swell would steadily decline Thursday night and drop to borderline advisory thresholds by today. Another large northwest swell will fill in tonight and will likely bring warning-level surf on Saturday.

Surf of 16 to 24 feet is expected along north-facing shores of Molokai and Maui, while surf of 12 to 18 feet is predicted along west-facing shores of Molokai.
