Food safety plans topic of workshop

“Food Labeling, Safety Plans, Distribution & Pricing for Small Businesses” is the topic of a workshop to be presented from 8:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Maui Research & Technology Center in Kihei.

The class fee is $25 and includes lunch.

The Food Safety and Modernization Act requires most manufacturers to comply with new nutrition labeling and food safety plans. The state Department of Health is requiring all food manufacturers to have at minimum, a Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point plan.

This workshop is geared toward the small food manufacturer to make them aware of what needs to be on a label and format, and what is needed in a basic food plan and how to prepare one.

The speakers include Luana Mahi, owner of Hawaiian Isles Unlimited LLC; John Nakashima, owner of Food Safety Services Hawaii LLC; and Nina Ann Tanabe, principal of Pacific Food Technology LLC.

Registration, which is required, can be made at go.hawaii.edu/N3A. For more information, contact Maui SBDC at 875-5990.
