• Texting enforcement. Maui police aren’t participating in the nationwide “U Drive. U Text. U Pay” distracted driver enforcement campaign that had been scheduled to start next week. “All National Highway Transportation Safety Administration campaigns are suspended due to the coronavirus,” police said in an update to a news release announcing the campaign.

Police officers will continue to enforce all state and county traffic violations. A story published on Page A2 in the Thursday edition of The Maui News was based on the initial news release.
