COVID-19 cases surpass 200
Maui County registered five new cases of COVID-19 on Monday as the statewide total surpassed 200, according to the state Department of Health.
The department reported 29 new cases as of noon Monday, including 16 in Honolulu County, five in Maui County, three in Hawaii County and five with pending locations. Statewide, there are now 204 cases — 139 in Honolulu County, 25 in Maui County, 15 in Hawaii County and 12 in Kauai County. Locations are still pending in 11 cases and two Hawaii residents were diagnosed out of state.
Of the total cases, 12 have required hospitalization. No deaths have been reported.
The 29 new cases Monday matches the largest single-day spike reported on Saturday, which health officials have predicted will continue to occur as Hawaii ramps up its testing.
