Brush fire doused by crews in Puunene
About a quarter-acre of brush was scorched Thursday morning at Kamaaina Road and Maui Veterans Highway, fire officials said.
Crews responded to the Puunene blaze around 11:30 a.m. and were able to quickly contain the fire, which was moving rapidly due to steady trade winds in the area.
The fire was extinguished at 1:36 p.m.
The cause of the blaze is unknown.
The Wailuku and Kihei fire crews, along with water tankers from Wailea and Kahului and the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter, all responded to the blaze.
Police said that Kamaaina Road, mauka of the Maui Humane Society, was closed due to the fire.
