92-degree heat sets records

Heat records were set two days in a row at Kahului Airport with temperatures hitting 92 degrees Tuesday and Wednesday, the National Weather Service said.

Wednesday’s high temperature broke last year’s record of 91 degrees for the day.

Tuesday’s high broke the record of 91 degrees set in 2014.

The waves also were breaking at advisory levels on south-facing shores of all islands. The high surf advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. today.

Today’s surf is expected to be 6 to 8 feet.

Expect strong breaking waves and rip currents, the weather service said.

The forecast for today is mostly sunny and windy with isolated showers in the morning. There is a 20 percent chance of rain.

Easterly winds up to 15 mph are expected to shift to the northeast this afternoon.

High temperatures should be between 83 and 91 degrees with overnight lows of 64 to 71 degrees.
