Brush fire burns 40 acres on Molokai

Four engine companies, two tankers and the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter responded to a brush fire Sunday in Hoolehua, Molokai. About 40 acres burned, and no structures were damaged.

About 40 acres of brush and fallow fields burned in a fire Sunday near Molokai Airport, according to the Maui Fire Department.

The fire was reported at 11:30 a.m., with Hoolehua, Kaunakakai and Pukoo engine companies and a Kaunakakai tanker responding initially. Shortly after the units arrived on scene, the Fire Department’s Air One helicopter and Kaunakakai relief engine and tanker crews were also called to the scene.

The fire was brought under control about an hour later.

The cause was undetermined.
